Try a dark drawing of someone looking back at a harbour…this would represent someone leaving there homeland…in this case a country close to my heart

I think it might be a good idea to research some artists, and take inspiration from them. Paul Henry focused mainly on the west of Ireland (where the land was at its worst) and created some evocative scenes, such as that in the link below. Not all famine-related, but some can be interpreted that way.
Otherwise, maybe some deserted houses/cottages (bearing in mind that this was in the mid-1800s). Or people toiling at the land, like Millet’s The Gleaners, only reinterpret and adapt it to suit your needs. Try googling ‘famine villages’ and other similar words for more inspiration.

A potato is a tuber, that is food grown in the ground. But what does a potato plant look like above ground.
Google it for images. Then take the plants image and draw the plant withered and dead.
That’s it. It sums up the whole of the famine. The crop was no good for years. So draw a dead potato plant to symbolize the famine.
